Key Requirements
In this section, specific requirements and expectations are identified. While these may vary based on our relationship with the supplier, and on the product or service they provide, the majority apply to all of our suppliers.
Supplier Qualification
All prospective suppliers are evaluated through a Supplier Qualification Process that consists of our Supplier Quality Pre-Audit survey and a comprehensive site audit. The qualification requirements that apply to new suppliers and existing suppliers with whom Littelfuse plans to further develop the relationship follow.
Quality System Certification
All suppliers must be certified to QS9000/TS16949/ISO9000 standards on which Littelfuse bases its quality system.
Pre-Qualification
Potential new suppliers are required to complete the Littelfuse Supplier Self Survey, to send it back with a copy of the firm's QS9000, TS16949 or ISO9000 certificate and to be audited by Littelfuse. Those that pass the audit are added to Littelfuse's approved supplier list.
Comprehensive Site Audit
As our Global Supply Base Strategy is implemented, Littelfuse will conduct a comprehensive site audit of existing suppliers that have potential to advance to a partner or alliance relationship.
Periodic Audits
Suppliers will be audited on an on-going basis. These audits will not be comprehensive site audits. Rather, they will focus on specific areas. Examples include on-site supplier reviews of processes, component audits at our plant, and audits focused on areas of concern previously identified.
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements
A requirement that applies to our suppliers, but is outside of the scope of the quality requirements included in this manual, is described below.
Certificate of Restricted and Reportable Materials
Suppliers whose products contain restricted and/or controlled substances must submit a Certificate of Restricted and Reportable Materials verifying conformance with environmental, health and safety laws and regulations. This certificate must be submitted prior to the first shipment of the product containing the substance. When applicable to a supplier's products, this requirement is included on the Purchase Order.
General Requirements
Requirements that apply to product(s) being produced for, and delivered to, Littelfuse include the following:
Certificates of Conformance and Quality Data
Suppliers who are required to provide Certificates of Conformance, Lot Traceability Certificates, Material Test Reports and other quality data, as identified on drawings or the Purchase Order, must fax or email the Certificate of Conformance cover sheet along with the supplier's certificate of conformance and quality data, prior to shipping the product. Upon receipt of Littelfuse's approval, the supplier can ship product. A copy of the supplier's Certificate of Conformance and quality data must accompany the shipment.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
All suppliers are responsible for producing product to the design specification, at the quoted production rate. This is confirmed through the Production Part Approval Process. The specific requirements a supplier must meet correspond to the submission level assigned by the Supplier Quality Engineer. This is typically identified during the RFQ process.
Corrective Action
Because a component failure causes significant problems for Littelfuse, ranging from immediate line down to abnormal costs associated with recovery, we place great emphasis on preventing recurrence of problems. This is accomplished through implementation of an eight-step corrective action process that suppliers are expected to follow if a discrepancy occurs. We are committed to assisting in the problem solving, and work with our suppliers to resolve the problem jointly and expeditiously.
Performance Measurement
Monthly Measurements
On a monthly basis, supplier, partner and alliance relationships are evaluated in six areas: quality, on-time delivery, inventory, service, technical knowledge and cost effectiveness. Measurements of performance in these areas, plus findings from the site audit result in rewards and recognition for good performance, probation for suppliers who fail to meet minimum acceptable expectations and disqualification for suppliers who fail to correct deficiencies. For more information, refer to the Measurement section.
